The famous La Liste, located in Paris is considered the world’s most exclusive directory of eateries, pastry shops, and hotels, has awarded Pakistan’s Lals Pâtisserie, a posh chocolate shop that initially introduced their exquisite taste in Karachi in 2006, the “Pastry Discovery Gem Award 2024.” The “diversity of talents, the artistry and audacity, education, and the commitment to values such as seasonal variation and biodiversity” are all celebrated by the annual pastry awards. According to La Liste’s website, “the inspirational chocolatier Lal Majid created Les Pâtisserie in Pakistan. As a child, she dreamed of owning a chocolate house like the one in her favorite story, Hansel and Gretel.”
When she opened her first upscale chocolate shop in 2006 in Karachi’s affluent Zamzama neighborhood, she discovered that her dream had come true. Lal has devoted the last 14 years of her life to creating the Lals brand, which is now known throughout the country for its premium chocolates, pastries, and freshly made gelato.
La Liste claimed that every confection, from the inventive honey baklava tart and coconut tea cake to the traditional chocolate cake and red velvet cupcakes, demonstrated Majid’s quest of sweet perfection.
As a sample of their creations, Majid and Tai made personalized chocolate bars with traditional Pakistani flavors like pink salt, ras malai, and almond milk before departing for the ceremony in Paris.
By stocking at Blomma in the Dubai Mall, Lals has extended the reach of their chocolates to Dubai and opened up the Middle Eastern market. In the future, Tai plans to work with national and international brands in an effort to expand her audience and forge a strong sense of community.
